Friday 21 February 2020
The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan visited The London Central Mosque today to stand in solidarity and support the community after a knife attack yesterday which left the Muazzin (the person who makes the call to prayer) with stab wounds to the neck.
The Mayor was received by the Director General Dr Ahmad Al Dubayan after which they attended the Friday Jummah prayers.
The sermon given by Shaikh Feisal Ismail was about respecting ones parents and the importance of security and safety in the wider society.
After the Friday prayers, Mayor Sadiq Khan gave a short speech to the thousands of worshippers saying he had come to reassure the community after the attack. Mayor Khan also said that all places of worship whether they be Churches, Mosques, Synagogues or Temples should be sanctuaries of peace where people should be free from the fear of attack. He ended by saying that it is very important we all stay vigilant at all times.
The Mayor of London then met with the Muazzin who left the hospital earlier in the day to attend the Friday prayers at the Centre. The Muazzin said that he forgave the attacker for his actions and that the Police were currently investigating the attack and to let them do their job. He also thanked the emergency services for their swift response.
Mayor Sadiq Khan met with the staff of the Centre and thanked everyone for their work, he also said that The London Central Mosque showed the world how the Muslim community should respond in a situation of an attack which was in a peaceful and civilised manner. He also stated that the staff were very balanced and calm in a time of great stress and shock after the attack.
As we adjust to life in lockdown, many vulnerable in our community need help to get essential supplies. Our staff and volunteers are delivering every day, may Allah reward them and keep them safe.
Please help us to buy the food needed, we'll do our very best to reach as many people as possible, insha-Allah.
