Imam Two Day Training Programme on 'Moderation and the Values of Dialogue'

The ISESCO and Qatar Charity in partnership with The Islamic Cultural Centre & London Central Mosque had organised a two days training for Imams on: Moderation and the Values of Dialogue. The training held in the Library Hall at the Islamic Cultural Centre on Tuesday 15th & 16th December 2015.

The training was split into two segments:

1 Theoretical element, which included:
- A presentation around the guidance of imam’s and religious leaders outside the Islamic world.
- A presentation on the topic: An information map of Islamophobia (meaning - roots - means - methods used).
- A presentation on the topic: The role of Imam's and religious leaders in eradicating the rise of Islamophobia (religious and media platforms: the reporting role and the correcting role - relations with others - being open to channels of debate - taking part in interrelation communicative meetings with others).

2 Practical element, which included:
- A workshop on the subject, 'Imam's and religious leaders, a means of monitoring what is said and written about Islam and its civilisation, with focus on what drives to the fear of Islam and the creation of hateful and intolerant feelings.'
- A workshop on the apparent fear-mongering against Islam on print and broadcast journalism as well as in caricatures; reviewing clippings and excerpts from articles about Islam with negative connotations.
- A workshop on communication patterns and techniques for creating dialogue.
- A workshop on the function of a religious leader as a stimulator and a preacher.
- Practical applications in the field of combating fear-mongering of Islam and negative portrayals of it.

30 Imams and religious leaders participated in the event and the attendees turn-out was excellent and the contents of the training presented by Dr. Hassan Azzouzi and Dr Abdililah Ben Arafa were excellent and valuable. The feedback received was outstanding.
