1. ISLAMIC MARRIAGE (NIKAH)

A 'Nikah' or a marriage contract according to Islamic (Shariah) Law are performed at the Islamic Cultural Centre. The Nikah ceremony will be performed by any one of the appointed Imams (Muslim Ministers) of the Islamic Cultural Centre and the London Central Mosque.

The Nikah ceremony will normally take place in a hall specially arranged for that purpose. It can accommodate a fairly large number of guests. It will be helpful when booking a date for the Nikah ceremony, to specify the number of guests attending the ceremony. All persons attending the ceremony are kindly requested to observe the Islamic tradition of dressing in keeping with Islamic values. The management reserves the right to refuse admission to anyone who does not comply with this request.

BOOKING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Current Passport (including Visa for Non-British Passport Holders) of the Husband and Wife.
  • Proof of Residential Address, whether UK or abroad (otherwise the address given on the booking form will be registered on the certificate).
  • Conversion Certificate for new Muslims (Groom or Bride).
  • Presence of two Muslim Male witnesses, with their ID's.
  • Presence of the Wali (the bride's father, brother or next of responsible male kin to the bride).
Please Note: The Groom, Bride, Her Wali & The Two Muslim Male Witnesses Should Attend The Ceremony In Person, Otherwise The Registrar Or The Imam Must Be Informed Of Any Issue While Submitting The Application.

  • Written declaration of the agreed Dowry [Mahr] (signed by both couple).
  • A copy of the booking form can be downloaded from the website (see below).
  • If the bride has previously been married, then an Islamic divorce certificate is required.
  • Signed & stamped Statutory Declaration* (Affidavit) applicable only to non-Muslim Brides. (The form must be signed & stamped by a solicitor or Commissioner for Oath in the UK).
  • To proceed please complete the Marriage Booking Application Form, along with clear/colour copies of both couple's passports and other relevant documents to registrar@iccuk.org
  • A fee of £300 fee to be paid while booking is made. Please note that Certificates are usually issued in English or Arabic. However, if you require the both languages please specify at the time of booking as there is an additional fee of £60 for this service.
  • There is a fee of £500 when a marriage is conducted outside the ICC premises. (This cost includes the Imam's fee)

NOTE:

  • The Islamic Cultural Centre will ONLY issue two original certificates (one for each couple) by the end of the Nikah ceremony, which should be kept in a safe place for any future reference. Please note that the Centre will not issue any more original copies, but instead will provide certified copies at a charge.
  • For non-UK Residents, Muslim brides and/ or bridegrooms who have dual nationality are advised to consult their respective embassies or the FCO office to comply with any regulations and/or requirements of their home country, whilst entering into a marriage contract in the UK.
  • Please Note that an Islamic marriage (Nikah) is not recognised as a legal marriage in the UK.
    Islamic marriages (Nikah) carried out/conducted in the UK are not recognised as marriages within the laws of England and Wales. The London Central Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre strongly recommend and encourage all Muslim couples who have either had/or are planning to have an Islamic Marriage in the UK MUST have a civil registry conducted by their local Registry Office, so that their marriage will be recognised and they will be afforded marriage rights under the laws of England and Wales.

2. ISLAMIC DIVORCE (TALAQ)

Booking Requirements:

  • Valid Current Passport (including Visa for Non-British Passport Holders) of the Husband and Wife.
  • Proof of Residential Address whether UK or abroad (please note that the address supplied on the booking form will be registered on the certificate).
  • Original Islamic Marriage Certificate*.
  • Divorce Absolute Decree (if available).
  • Presence of two Muslim Male witnesses, with their ID's.
  • A fee of £300 fee to be paid while booking is made. Please note that Certificates are usually issued in English or Arabic. However, if you require the both languages please specify at the time of booking as there is an additional fee of £60 for this service.
  • To proceed, forward the Filled Application Form, along with clear/colour copies of both couple's passports, proof of Islamic marriage and other relevant documents to registrar@iccuk.org .
  • A copy of the booking form can be downloaded from the website (see below).
    The ceremonies are usually conducted in English or Arabic.

    * If Marriage Certificate is other than Arabic or English, then a certified translation is required.

3. CONVERSION (SHAHADAH)

He/She who has decided to embrace the religion of Islam, will need to book an appointment. This is a free service; it usually takes place in the Imam's office and a certificate (as proof of your shahadah/conversion) will be issued at the end of the process.
The applicant must provide a proof of his/her original ID (passport or full Driving Licence).

4. OTHER REGISTRATION SERVICES:

Authentication: For Nikah ceremonies conducted outside the ICC, the certificates can be certified/endorsed by the Centre provided that they were issued by a recognised mosque or institution in the UK. For more information, please contact the Registrar and there is charge of £70 for this service.

School Reference:

The School Reference form is £15 per child & £7 for any additional school form. All parents are kindly requested to produce passport or birth certificate of their child while attending for this service.

Our Centre has been conducting marriages, divorces and conversions since 1946 which records have been kept in a digital database and there is a charge for obtaining a copy.
